Curious what is your oil life at? Also some found wait until infotainment comes on before initiating Waze. Might help in future.

Thanks
I’ll have to wait until I get the car back to check on oil life. Are you thinking the maintenance notification may be triggering this? Seems like it’s happening a lot to people that haven’t had their vehicles as long as I have.

I try to “swipe up” on Waze when I leave the car so it’s not running in the background, but rarely remember to do that. May need to be more diligent in doing so in the future.

No I was curious for my own knowledge about oil life. Trying to figure out mileage when the light will populate.
Thanks

As with many iOS apps, there might still be bugs in the Waze app, in this case specifically related to Carplay. The app was updated about a month ago, but perhaps this issue has not yet been resolved. Since this issue was first raised here, I have disabled Waze from CarPlay. I use CarPlay often when I drive and have not had the Infotainment system freeze (I try to wait until the Infotainment system has loaded before connecting my iPhone).

However, my feeling is that the whole CarPlay/app environment is not quite there yet (all bugs not worked out). I have seen some wonky behavior like the music app suddenly loading without any prompting from me, etc.

FYI, you can see your oil life in the HondaLink app. I am at 40% at 3,800 miles.

This exact issue happened to me this morning. I was using CarPlay. Waze wasn’t on the screen, but may have been working in the background. The car is at the dealer now.
Hello! I have never had Waze and mine still messes up. It is the pic I posted that when those 2 boxes get unchecked on blue tooth - carplay will not work. They just randomly uncheck themselves. Could not get the problem to duplicate at dealer. System is fully updated. Then I had the issue with the transmission. I was on a hill, let off brake it did not hold at all - barely rolled back and made a noise and the Passport motor was dead and the car went into Neutral. Did this twice with me could not duplicate at dealer. Had an issue that sometimes when the A/C was on auto, it would not cool, I had to switch to A/C on. Many years ago I had a Pilot and did not have the first problem with it at all. The front seat comfort in the passport on long drives is not what I expected but I think that is me and not the Passport. I love the AWD system and some other features but all of these other things are really annoying. I do not get it - it is mainly a shorter, wider, Higher Pilot and should not have these issues. It was aggravating me and I was concerned that if this turns out to be subpar quality, you can forget that great Honda value that they all retain. I stopped by a Ford Dealer ship and looked at the 2019 Ford Ranger 4X4. Drove it. The Passport is just a tad smoother on a slow take off but Wow!, that lil 2.3 Eco Boost would haul butt and gets 20 mpg in town and 24 on hwy. Seats are very comfortable up front, no where near the room in the back but I hardly have that many in back seat, we usually are hauling gear or dogs. I hate losing money and did not think that they would do much but they got me right above the amount I was willing to eat so I traded and they had to get it from another dealer and I pick it up today. I think Honda has great reliability but just too many problems with mine with 1,400 miles on it. I will miss the Passport and hope that all of you get all the kinks worked out of yours so that you can enjoy them to their fullest. I do have the pics of the Bluetooth settings that you need to make sure are checked so that carplay works. Just reply on this or to my e-mail and I will be glad to send them to you. chuck.rey@live.com .

Just picked my car up from the dealer. They included a copy of the manufacturer’s instructions to technicians. It’s a known software issue, and they believe it is related to CarPlay. Once they’ve fixed the problem a notice will go out to PP owners recommending we come to the dealer for a software update.

In the meantime, when it happens you can either disconnect the battery, or pull the “Radio/USB” fuse. The latter is easier; the fuse box is on the passenger side of the engine compartment. There is a diagram of the fuse box inside the lid (pay attention to the arrow signifying which way is front). It’s the 15 amp fuse closest to the driver.

I think I’m going to buy a cheap USB keyboard and keep it handy. With my luck this will happen again while I’m wearing a suit and it’s 105 outside.

Would you mind posting a copy of the manufacturer’s instructions to technicians?

had a freeze up today and screen stayed on after power was turned off. i inserted the usb /keyboard, bought on amazon just for this,
and hit ctl, alt, delte and it re booted. i think i gave it to many commands and it frooze. waze was running at time. i also still have carplay issues in that siri dosent work so i cant call out of car hands free = defeats purpose lol/.

2,400 miles. EX-L Passport here. It happened to me for the first time today while using Waze on a road trip. I heard a loud beep and the entire system froze. After turning the vehicle off the infotainment system still wouldn’t turn off. I take it that from what I’m reading I should wait for a software update fix from Honda?in the meantime what freaks me out is how do I know the head until will still have this problem and not turn off after I exit the vehicle? This can drain my battery.

Can you link the keyboard? How does it work and where does it plug into? I guess I was wondering when I turn off the vehicle how do I know of the display will remain on or not?
i just plugged in the usb frm keyboard to the usb port near phone charger/near shift buttons and hit control/alt/delete, and it rebooted.
i did this w engine on , after rebooted i could turn car off and info would power off correctly.

This freaks me out now as I’ll always have to make sure the display turns off after I shut the engine down. After deleting Waze should I still have this issue?

I think it is a coincidence that this involves the use of Waze but that is not the cause of this issue. I use Waze all the time and no issues whatsoever on my unit. In my other vehicle, I often had to mount my phone on the windshield to use Waze and worry about states where it is illegal to do so even though the vehicle has an infotainment system with GPS map. Waze just seems to be the best GPS app out there with all the whistles and bells it has. Having Waze integrated into this infotainment was so very welcome for me - I would hate not to be able to use it. Honda is definitely aware of this issue and is yet to provide a concrete explanation for why some units experience this issue.
