I think it is a coincidence that this involves the use of Waze but that is not the cause of this issue. I use Waze all the time and no issues whatsoever on my unit. In my other vehicle, I often had to mount my phone on the windshield to use Waze and worry about states where it is illegal to do so even though the vehicle has an infotainment system with GPS map. Waze just seems to be the best GPS app out there with all the whistles and bells it has. Having Waze integrated into this infotainment was so very welcome for me - I would hate not to be able to use it. Honda is definitely aware of this issue and is yet to provide a concrete explanation for why some units experience this issue.
It’s Waze 100%. I uninstalled the app. No more problems.

This happened to me this morning, on the drive into work. The Passport has 600 miles on it. High pitched sound over speakers, then audio gone. Park car, shut off engine, head unit will not power down. I was using Apple Carplay and Waze at the time of this event, but I use them every time I drive the car, so this issue is definitely sporadic. Anyway, it seems like the fix should come in the way of an infotainment system update (over WIFI) hopefully? Heading out with a USB keyboard now to reboot it, lol.

@Gmjohnson any chance you can post a copy of the manufacturer's instructions to technicians? I'd really like to have a copy of that in case ever needed when talking to my dealer.

For some reason I had problems posting a photograph of the instructions the first time I tried. I will try again this weekend, but the next time I’ll take a photo of the fuse box (there are two) and the fuse. The instructions themselves don’t provide any detail over and above what I previously described. In fact, it really doesn’t do an adequate job pinpointing which fuse it is they suggest pulling (it’s the one labelled “Radio/USB”).

Thank you. I'm more interested in it for the official documented recognition that there is a known issue. You know, something to show my dealer, on the off chance they say they've never heard of this issue before...

By the way, the USB keyboard CTRL-ALT-DEL trick worked like a charm, so thanks for that. Makes me chuckle to think of telling someone I had to plug in a keyboard and reboot my car radio.

How often and in what scenario do you have to do this?

Plug in a keyboard to reboot the radio? Only once, so far.
Yep! Ok what that when the Waze was on?

I ask because today I kept hearing a popping noise while talking on the phone call through the system. After turning off the vehicle the Infotainment system turned off which was good and the popping didn’t come back. I deleted the Waze app when my other issue started a few weeks ago with Waze, but that’s also when I had to remove the fuse as well.

Today was the 1st time I’ve experienced this “new” problem.

I've had my car for about 3 months and play the radio & CD's everyday, I've connected in my iPhone X several times, both via USB & Bluetooth, have NOT run any Apps (NO WAZE or Spotify)...

I have NEVER had any issues with the system, it has run perfectly, I suspect it may have something to do with running Apps, any thoughts?

When it happened to me last week, there was no popping sound. Just a brief high pitched sound. Closest thing I could compare it to was a half second clip of a needle being dragged across a vinyl record, lol. Then no more audio, and if you try to change audio source, the screen just goes into a LOADING...death spiral.

Lately my Infotainment system makes a popping/cracking sound no matter if I have my iPhone cord plugged in or not. It happens even after I turn off the streaming music that I play as well. As a matter of fact I turned off the Infotainment system entirely and I still heard it.

Definitely something else is going on here. After I removed Waze I haven’t had the issue yet where I have to remove the fuse yet, but this popping/cracking sound had been happening very frequently.

Yesterday I heard a loud ‘pop’ followed by a loss of Bluetooth audio from my iPhone. I did not have the phone plugged in rather I was playing Spotify over Bluetooth. Now I have to turn the radio up all the way to hear Bluetooth. My guess is a failed component in the Bluetooth preamp. I’ll try control alt delete first before taking it in.

Every other source works fine

Hello! I have the 2019 Passport Elite and everything worked fine for the first 2 weeks then I used the Nav system and now siri will not work in my carplay. Carplay comes up on the screen and you can push the buttons but when you try and tell her to do something she either says that she cannot hear you or has lost her internet connection but in reality she has not as I can unplug her and ask the same question and she will answer. The mic in the Passport works. I have done factory reset on radio and iPhone. Been on the phone over 2 hours with Apple support and cannot figure it out - any suggestions? Other than that, I really like the Passport. Thanks!
i have same issue , tried everything
going to dealer next . i have an iphone ten
pretty sure its the car

I haven't had any issues with android phones and I haven't seen anyone else with an android report an issue yet either. The common theme with these problems is iphone. In prior cars, I had intermittent issues on Android with these very things. Each time it was resolved by an update to my phone (generally issued a couple months later), not to the car.

Using my iPhone XS lately in my EX-L, my Infotainment system is becoming unusable. Plugged in via usb or on Bluetooth the pops (or crackles like how wooden logs sound like in a fire pit) that I keep hearing during phone calls or while streaming music is so bad that o don’t even use this system anymore until I can bring it into a dealer. My fear is they will simply say they can’t recreate it and I’ll be on my way...I spoke to Honda and they have no fix for it.
