Same Dealer experiences here in So. Cal. - its like they have been ordered not to discount - so that all the masses of people flooding their dealerships to buy one of these groundbreaking vehicles will be happy paying full price.

This is like the story of the Emperors' New Clothes: Honda does NOT want you to see they took the same Engine, Transmission, Seats, Dash, Electronics, Platform, Wheels & Tires, put them on a kindanew body - with all the same Paint Colors and hope that you are so impressed with a 2-1/2 cu ft trunk - that you will shell out top dollar...!

Meanwhile Honda sold 80,000 LESS Accords and Civics last year and sales declined in the billions, yet they can't give a guy a $3-grand discount on a supposedly "new" car..

sad...
You nailed.

I wonder if Ford is using the same strategy with the new Ranger? There's been even more hype regarding that release than we've seen for the Passport.
They were when I was considering trucks. Some were bold enough to try to tack on two thousand over MSRP. The ranger has a history of being a great truck. And it want like they chopped six inches off of a F150 and were then trying to sell it for more than an f150.

I tested the Ranger. Turbo 4 with 10 speed transmission. They have different trim packages, st the time I think I was in the top trim. It is a nice small truck. It drives more like a car than the Tacoma. It was the beginning of the year.

What I found was there were a ton of 2018 F150 left overs. I was offered a loaded V6 super crew four door F150 2018 but New for less than the Ranger.

But the Ranger is nice. Has a long history with a big following.

I think they are probably negotiating more reasonably now.

If initial production of the Passport is anything like the Pilot when it was released you all are going to be waiting a long time for your $3,000 off MSRP discount. Sure, its basically a shortened Pilot and some people may get lucky and get a deal here and there but this is a high demand low production market right now for the Passport.

Low production .... Yes. High demand ... doubt it. Continue to lose customers to other brands... will lose this one.

Low production ... yes. High demand .... doubt it. Lose my business ..... highly likely.

In no way can I be happy paying 3-4 k more for less vehicle. And I'm not buying a pilot.

Honda screwed up on this one. They should have made the Passport significantly different than the Pilot. More sporty. Then they could justify the cost difference.

Honestly I am insulted that they think I would pay 3k more for a six inch shorter Pilot because of some advertisements if it running through dirt trails.

Honda execs laughing on the way to the bank.
Hee hee.... look at those Americans . Paying more for less car with worse gas mileage.

Not me

Local dealer here in Norwood, MASS is now showing 26 Passports available on their lot, with none @ discount pricing.
Well, because it's Boch Honda. Don't expect much from them, especially now when Boch himself is no longer in charge.
If you look around, however, there are dealerships around Boston which do show discounted prices. I have not tried it myself yet, I'm waiting for all the hype to calm down a little. Also, I do not see anyone to have what I want even listed. So, I have patience, I'll wait.

It's not even a week after the official "on sale" date (Feb 4, if I'm not mistaken), so I'm not surprised that Honda dealers is trying play tough. At least in my region (Pacific Northwest), I've started to see dealers advertise less than MSRP. Could of course be bait & switch, no guarantees, not actually tired to buy one.

Test drove an Elite and LOVED it. Sat down to negotiate and ended up frustrated. Walked out. They wanted MSRP PLUS they low-balled my trade big time and refused to budge. NET would have been like giving them $4,000 OVER MSRP to drive off in the Passport.

Called 3 other dealer in the area and NONE were willing to budge off MSRP.

Bought a Mazda CX-5 GTR instead. Have had it for 3 days and must say, it is a terrific vehicle! The new 2.5T engine makes all the difference.

Nice. Mazda is doing some good work with Turbo technology to solve some inherent deficiencies. It seems to be a proper sized motor and is probably pretty fun. added. I may just go drive one for fun....

If Honda Execs are laughing all the way to the bank they certainly didn't "screw up" the Passport. Have fun with that sporty Highlander... Honda gonna sell tons of these Passports.

. gotta make a ton to sell a ton. 45 k is just a side show

I think many are expecting a bit more give considering we are willing to take a chance on their vehicle even they opted to put a notorious transmission in it. I did see that someone got a free lifetime drivetrain warranty with their purchase. Is that standard?

I agree with many here. Was so excited about this Passport. But with the 20" wheels which I can't stand and don't want, the weird transmission, worse than expected gas mileage, probably same borderline IIHS safety rating for front passenger small overlap as the Pilot, and the final nail: the current pricing... I have to move on.

I 'needed' at least the towing capacity of the 2019 Rav4 Adventure, but was concerned it would be a bit too small for us and really, it's too expensive for a compact SUV; thought the Subaru Ascent was too big for our needs, and then saw the Passport and really wanted it. Both my wife & I have had Hondas in the past and they were top notch... really wanted the Passport to work. Now will go with the Ascent - great value and utility and top safety marks across the board with excellent tow rating with just a $500 hitch package instead of the rigamarole you have to get for the Passport to tow...

Went to check out the Passport and this dealer (near L.A.) is asking $3000 on top of all the stuff they put on it. Yikes! If this is the norm I may have to get a Pilot instead :cautious:
These markups are ridiculous and anyone who pays for them has been ripped off. Avoid this kind of dealer at all costs. Buy your OEM accessories separately from online discounters.
