From the article:

"Finally, the transmission too easily overrules manual inputs you've selected with the paddle shifters, which was annoying when driving down lengthy grades. After selecting fourth gear with the paddles to use engine braking, I'd eventually find myself back in fully automatic Drive mode and sixth gear once I'd prod the throttle a few times to maintain a desired speed. I'd then have to pull the paddle and start the process all over again. There is no manual mode button to press to maintain your control."

No manual mode button??? Yes there is, it's call Sport mode. It'll hold the gears all day long until redline.

I don't understand the negative reviews and owner comments about the Infotainment system. I find it totally adequate in it's operation and for a factory system the sound in the 10 speaker audio system in my Passport is excellent.

I also agree, the Passport Infotainment is better than both of my last 2 BMW's (Albeit they were older) and better than my wife's 2014 RX350!

The guy in this review drove the Passport for an extended period of time, but in many/most reviews, the reviewer has it for a couple of days and thus a very steep learning curve is required. Many of us have drove our vehicles for months and have settled in on how to use it.

The other thing you have to remember about these serial review sites, is that they are seeing multiple brands of cars, so their fame of reference is different than most of us. Also they drive their own cars, which may give them a bias as well.

So whenever I read a negative review, I typically ask myself is this negativity something that could effect me and my expectations and use of my vehicle. For example: when ready about the new RAV4 and all the complaints about excessive engine noise, chances are - that would bother me too!

But I have not had ANY of the transmission issues that this reviewer mentions, so he might be driving it harder and pushing it to the limits MORE than any of us, because he has the car on loan and did not pay $30/40 grand of his own money for it!

I read a post on the CR-V forums that someone tested the auto braking by putting a big foil-covered cardboard box in the road. They said it stopped, but I didn’t validate it. My wife was backing-up the CR-V one time, and didn’t pay attention to the camera, and the car stopped her from backing into the car behind her. One time I was driving the CR-V over a steel plate in road after it had rained — apparently the radar thought it was another car, and it stopped me quite abruptly — scared the heck out of me and the dog — thank goodness nobody was behind us (and we were going <20 mph). The electronics on the PP are better than the CR-V, so I’m not expecting the steel plate issue to reoccur, but I certainly think about it when I’m crossing one! I have also noticed odd “BRAKE” messages on the screen when a car in-front of me has turned ... but the message displays after they’ve turned. I think there’s some adjustment needed there.

I agree "some adjustment" is needed with the auto stop function. I't done it to me at least twice in the month I've had my passport and to be honest i think it is unsafe. I have been through the manual, talked to service, other honda people and it seems there is no way to deactivate it. It needs to be fine tuned somehow. Otherwise i am supremely happy with the vehicle......including the sound system.
