Yesterday a popping noise started in the front while making left turns. We dropped it off at the Honda Dealership this morning. As of this afternoon they have been able to hear the noise and have replaced several parts (didn't tell us what parts) but the noise still exists. They have spoken with a Honda engineer and tomorrow they are going to try some other things, such as replacing springs. EX-L Passport FWD with 2k miles. Maybe we should have got the Pilot my wife wanted and not a 1st generation vehicle. Hopefully they will get it resolved.

I woulnd't be too concerned with the Passport being a "first year / first generation vehicle". It's mostly a combination of the Ridgeline and the Passport and the proven engine both those vehicles feature. The suspension components are likely the same or very similar of both those vehicles.

I agree with darksky. The major operating systems (engine, trans, suspension) have been proven with other Honda vehicles in this same class. It was one of the main selling points why I purchased the Elite trim level PP. It is a new design, but with proven components. To me it was a good combination.

Did the front sway bars resolve your clunk noise?

I noticed it today twice, when backing out of parking spots while on road trip? I think I was backing out and turning right, but can’t be certain.

PGirl..search jermboys*** long thread of a "clunk, while turning, in reverse." It may be similar to what you describe.
I thought I heard the same noise, turning in reverse. But mine is not a constant noise to track it down. I heard another small, pop/clunk in front end recently. Trying to reproduce that still.
Good luck. peace, e.

I occasionally hear a small non-metallic "clunk" when shifting from P to R, but nothing associated with turning. It sounds to me to almost a normal transmission shifting sound. As the PP is still new to me (3,650 miles and 3.5 months) is it it's normal operating sounds? Still enjoying the quietest SUV I've owned. Can't wait till winter to try out the Snow mode!

The transmission should not clunk when shifting from P to R, unless the weight of the vehicle is resting on the parking pawl (or if the fluid level is not correct, which should not be the case in our brand new PP). Use of the parking brake should prevent that (providing its set before you let off the brake pedal when parking). With that being said, it is a ZF9 transmission so who the hell knows lol!

Jermboy777 I may have overstated the sound I was trying to describe. I could have been on a grade putting pressure on the park pawls and making the sound I heard when shifting from P into D. I don't recall hearing it recently, so it may have been a one-off event. I'll report back if I hear it again.

I'm hoping that some of these clunks, thumps, etc. are maybe the Passports' suspension parts, frame, etc just settleing in by use. Maybe some of these will disappear with use? At least, this is my hope. My sounds seem very intermittent. So I'll keep driving and maybe go get it checked out at dealers' before the 36K mile warranty ends..

Of course, before that if I hear or feel something more constant. They'll prolly try that, " its' the nature of all Passports" line on me. So far still enjoying my Obscenely Blue Touring. Reading some of these near epic, fails on here plants concern in back of my mind. So we'll keep heads up around here. peace y'all, e.

No it didn't fix the problem. They replaced all front suspension components and still didn't fix it. They replaced the subframe and that corrected the noise but they couldn't get the vehicle in alignment afterwards, they had to loosen up the subframe to get it close to straight but still wasn't 100%. The tech thinks the unibody is bent. After weeks of dealing with this we traded the PP in on another PP . We got tired of dealing with it. Since the vehicle was in spec's just barely it no longer fell into the lemon law. The Honda rep gave us a paper and told us to call Honda customer service, this was on a Saturday they are only open Monday through Friday. Even though the car was in specs as they said, it drove horrible and still pulled to the right . That wasn't an issue until the subframe was replaced. So that Saturday we traded our PP that we had for 3 months on a new PP. Our original PP had major issues it was definitely a lemon but we didn't have the time any longer to invest in try to get a buyback that probably wouldn't have happened. So far the 2nd PP has been good...knock on wood

It sounds like your first PP wasn't assembled correctly or the parts off the assembly line were defective to begin with. Assembly QC and final production QC should have caught your problem before it left the factory. Honda let you down by not making good on what was a non-correctable car. Thanks for the details.

I totally agree with you. The dealership was really good to us . They told us that nothing more could be done to the PP and that it was the best it would ever be. They worked on it for 3 weeks and really tried. We lost some in the trade deal but they got us out of the vehicle. It was worth the 1500.00 that we lost to be done and not have the headache. We are now moving forward with the new PP and enjoying it.

Oh geez...what a ridiculous ordeal.
Did they honor your financing and an even trade and you owed nothing different?

Even though we don't believe that Corporate Honda took care of us like they should have. The Dealership did. We came out the best we could in this situation. We actually lost very little in the end and it worth it to get put an end to it.
