So I traded in a 2016 Pilot and got my new Passport. Overall very pleased so far, the improvements to the transmission are very noticeable and a huge improvement. But I have noticed an annoying feature of the Homelink system which is now mounted in the rear view mirror. It seems to be very directional in that it doesn't want to work if the car is facing away from the garage door. When driving towards the door the Homelink works from 50 feet away, but when backing in or worse still having driven out but facing away from the garage , the Homelink doesn't work, even it I am so close that the rear of the car is almost touching the door....nothing. I keep having to get out of the car to manually close the garage door.

Unfortunately I am one of those people that likes to back into my garage so this is a very annoying feature.

My Home Link works well when facing away from the gate I’m closing. I think the PP works better than my 16 Pilot. Maybe try reprogramming or try to use one of the other buttons and see if it works any better. Just a thought:unsure:

I"ve had occasion to back into my driveway a couple of times with my new Passport and the Homelink garage door opener worked fine. The rear of the vehicle was about 10 feet away from the garage door.

I contacted Homelink and one thing they strongly recommended was no LED between you and your garage door opener. Apparently, the LED interfere with the signal. I am still struggling to get mine working correctly... but it's the same for my other 2 cars also...BMW and a Porsche so....

I tried programming all the butons but still can't get it to work. Seems very directional !!

Your homelink seems off / I park in the street a little up from my driveway and it works fine for me and the Costco runs where I back up and it works fine for me and I have a small cul-de-sac by me and it works there without looking at the garage so when I go around the door is up wonder if u can get a new mirror from ur dealership... ?

I own a garage door company so I am very familiar with homelink and garage door openers. First, what brand of opener do you have and about how old is it? The information homelink gave you about LED light bulbs is correct. In fact, compact fluorescent bulbs can interfere too. Do you have LED or compact Fluorescent bulbs in your opener or near it?

Have you done anything else in your garage besides adding the passport?

Typically this is a problem with all openers. Some, not all, LED lights give off a radio frequency that can interfere with the opener specifically the rage of the transmitter. The good news is that there are some that do not interfere. I sell LED bulbs (the ones that go on a regular socket) at my store that, have been tested by Genie and Overhead Door brands, that do not interfere with the openers.

I’m not sure if the other types of LEDs like the trough ones give off the same interference. I would start by calling the manufacturer of your garage door opener and ask the tech support.

I suspect your problem is from interference from something in your garage and not an issue with homelink.

I have the same problem as the OP. Is it really an LED interference issue if the opener works fine when facing the gate, but not when facing away from it?

Also, the LED lights that are near my gate are turned off most of the time I experience this issue. Wouldn’t it only be a problem if they’re turned on?

Well, I made sure the light was turned off today before leaving the house. Once again, I was unable to get the gate to open when facing away from the gate. I opened my driver side door (same side as the gate opener), and it worked.

If it’s signal interference it must be something other than the light...is WiFi on the same spectrum? I recently added a signal booster inside near this spot...that’s the only thing that’s changed the last few months.

I cheated, ignored the manual and went to Youtube for programming Homelink for my two openers.

I had no trouble following the instructions and my Homelink works from in front of my house (about 30').

You may wish to re-position the antenna on your garage door opener or even extending it.
