I hear what your saying. The 2019 Highlander is currently around four inches shorter than the Pilot. They are likely trying to stay competitive with Pilots interior space. My understanding is the 2020 highlander will sit on a new frame/platform .... it will be interesting to see. I am pretty sure they will unveil it in New York Auto Show in April.

The salesman got back to me on the Passport. As I expected , the dealer is not willing to move much off MSRP yet. Also found out adding tow package is over $1500! The adventure package is almost $4k Just not worth it to me. The viewing public will hardly be able to tell the difference between a pilot and passport.

I will sit back ... watch and chomp on some popcorn until the 2020 highlander comes out. Still have Kia, Subaru and Lexus to look at.
The Ascent is a fine SUV for the money. Love my wife’s Impreza Sport with added accessories. A tank in the snow!

Test drove the passport and santa fe last weekend. Size wise they aren't in the same ballpark. Passport much roomier and wider. I didn't care for the way the santa fe shifted in normal or eco mode. Sport felt much better. Engine was much more gargolly than the passports v6 also.

Also, give the Mazda CX-5 GTR or Signature a test drive. The new 2.5-Turbo engine is a huge step forward. After dealers refused to negotiate on the Passport, I ended up with a CX-5 GTR and after nearly 2 weeks have been thrilled with it!

highly suggest you test drive a Kia Sorento ex with the touring package....looks like they can be bought for 34k plus tax and tags.

u sure thats with the touring package? How is the size compared to the passport? We really liked the passports width and the v6 engines power. Is the sorento v6 and size comparable? we planned on test driving tomorrow.

Yes with touring package. Very comfortable in front and mud seats. I would just leave the third row down for cargo. Not quite as much cargo room as Passport but it's an unbelievable value. And comes with 5 year 60 k bumper to bumper and 100 k 20 year power train.

The Harmon Kardon stereo is amazing sound. Take some time to play with it.

I will send you some of my research below.

If you test it let me know what you think

interesting. Although I'm not sure I like the looks as much of it. How does the size of the sorento compare to the santa fe? We did not like the santa fe's size was too small for us. Consumer reports dimensions for the exterior and interior make the santa fe and sorento almost identical.

First is Sorento second number is Santa fe

I test drives a sante fe about a month ago... it felt low quality to me in many aspects. As far as interior size , you will have more in the Passport but looking at the overall value the Kia smashes it. The Kia felt much higher quality than Santa Fe. The Kia Sorento ex AWD with touring package is worth a spin. Never hurts to look.

We were visiting family in a Florida retirement community and every other vehicle was either a white or silver RX 350. You may have to be 65+ to purchase a RX 350.
Lol, this is soooo true, my wife and I noticed the same thing when in Florida.

We purchased a 2014 RX350 (this is the previous body style), back in early 2015 (when the 2015 were already on the Lot) and the MSRP was $49k and we got $7k off ($42k), which I though was an awesome deal! This is still my wife's daily driver and is a wonderful and super well-built/reliable vehicle and would buy one again (love the new aggressive body style). I think the new models come out in March, so they should be discounting the "old" models once the new ones arrive. If I did not want some off-road capability, I'd see if I could get a last years' model RX350 for the same or less than a full MSRP'd Passport Elite!

I'll jump in on the other side of the fence regarding Hyundai. I'm on my second car from them and I've been very happy with both. The first new car I ever bought was the Hyundai Tucson the year it was introduced. I treated that little truck terribly and it still kept going. I finally passed it on to family with about 190k miles when my wife and I got married and we didn't need two SUVs, it's still going strong. She had the CRV that we are also passing on to family now that the Passport is on the way. The replacement for the Tucson was the Hyundai Veloster that has been the best car I've ever driven. I love that little spaceship. I know Hyundai has a long history as "that other car maker", but I can say that after the full line refresh in the early 2000's they have been a solid value choice. It's true that the resale value isn't where the main stream makers are, in large part due to the non-transferable nature of the warranty. I tend to drive cars until the wheels fall off or until they get passed on to family, so the value proposition for me may be different than for others, but I thought I should chime in with a pro-Hyundai perspective. I like their styling and was very tempted by the Santa Fe, but I do like having cars from different manufacturers. The CRV became the Passport, and some day the Veloster will likely become another Hyundai of some shape or form... probably an all electric.

I test drove a Kona, I know not an apple to apple comparison, I’m not a fan of Hyundai but Kona was #1 recently so I overlooked the large headlight fog light thingy but for 30k it was not my fav (simple thing like closing doors felt tinny). It was too small as expected and moved on to the RDX but I didnt like the round dash thingy and overall luxury feel (felt like u had to baby it a bit - long story) so the Passport was perfect for me ?
