Have any of you owners explored the rear area where the mini spare tire is?

I'm wondering if a full size spare will fit in the area?

If it does, it may encroach on the storage ares or even the sub-woofer, but I would really like to get a full size spare tire and would love to put it under the rear deck as to opposed to having it on top of the deck?

Also, does anybody else plan to get a full size spare? If I'm on a long trip to the mountains, 300 miles from home, the last thing I want to do if I have a tire/wheel out of commission, is to put on a mini-spare that is good for 50miles at 55mph...

I remember a Honda rep in a review video saying that the plastic tub section below the cargo floor could be completely removed for cleaning. Maybe it won't need to be cut and instead a custom floor panel could be made to sit above (on top of) whatever full-size tire you have as a spare. Search for videos of how car campers modify the rear of their SUVs for camping storage and bed setups. It's doable.

I just bought a PP this week and will be putting 17" rims on because I need to travel on long and sometimes rough dirt roads. Modifying the storage area to fit a full height spare is on my list of mods to do. I'm thinking to cut out the plastic around that cargo area so it fits. I'll let people know how that plan goes...
YES, good luck, hope it works...!

Looking at the picture, I think I see where the plastic tray comes out, but since the space is very tight against the front wall, side wall and the sub-woofer, the only way I see it fitting is to move it towards the back which will cut into the storage space, which may be ok, I was not planning on putting much back there except for bolting down a small gun safe, like this:

Have you had any luck with this? If so, can you post photos and where you had it done?

A full size spare is also a concern to me as I often take long road trips in the middle of no where...
I changed out the spare on my CRV to a full size (never used it), but it looks great and give me a sense of security!

PG, you can't put the Passport spare on the rear deck lid, it would not open.. only way to do it is to put it in a bag and keep it in the back. (you probably knew this...)

You can buy a Yakima roof basket and the spare tire holder that fits into the basket. The only hard part is lifting the spare tire up into the basket.

I have seen a couple of Q7's with this setup. Both had out-of-state plates and were vacationing on Cape Cod. Q7's do not have any spare tire. Worse yet, if you buy a Q7 with 21" wheels you get regular tires. (not run flats). So then your options are to carry your own spare tire or plan on having roadside assistance flatbed your Q7 to a tire place or Audi dealer.
