Finally got my Passport home. The dealer had to replace the transmission. After driving it for awhile after replacement it is obvious that the transmission was bad from day one. I put about 80 miles on it and it is shifting smooth and there is no surging when slowing down. I think I'm going to be happy with my choice now. It had me worried for awhile.

Mine is a little "clunky" at low speed/ feather touching the gas kinda driving. If you drive with vigor or slightly more aggressive, then it's fine. Kinda normal from what I've been told.

I guess the best way to describe it was when downshifting to the last two gears (I'm guessing on the gear numbers) it felt like when slowing down for a stop going from 2nd gear to 1st it would seem to come out of second and then the engine would speed up about 500+ RPM's and then it would go into 1st causing kind of a surge and speed up when coming to a halt. Also a couple of times when taking off from a complete stop it would act like it missed the shift between 1st and 2nd and the engine would rev up a bit. The first time a took it to the dealer they reprogrammed the transmission and right after that it locked up as I was pulling out from an ATM. I would not go into any gear but after awhile I got it working and drove it to the dealer. The technician that did the inspecting according to my invoice said he found P0701 then contacted Honda and they said replace it. That's about all I know. Just glad I wasn't out in the boondocks when it decided to go tits up.

Hats off to the service department/tech and for Honda giving the green light for a transmission remove and replacement. It is all too common for a person to go through a long 1 month+ process going back and forth with the dealer for whatever reason they don't want to do the work (even though the factory reimburses the dealership for parts and labor) and then go a couple of rounds back and forth with a factory technician for issue like this.

Out of curiosity, how soon did the service department get you back on the road after they diagnosed an apparently bad transmission including part(s) delivery?

I dropped it off on the 2nd or 3rd of May. They called me about two hours later and said that Honda told them to replace the transmission. They ordered one and received it on the 8th and I picked it up yesterday morning (10th). There were no issues regarding the transmission. I guess the code that the tech got probably mandated a replacement. I happy with the service I received from the dealer and Honda.
