Anyone know the difference between the i-VTM4 system on Honda vs the SH-AWD system on Acura?

Some say they are exactly the same, others say they are the same hardware but different software, others still say they are totally different.

Anyone know for a fact what the difference is?

For the 2016 and up Honda Pilot, although Honda is marketing its AWD system as “i-VTM4”, it is in fact identical to the latest SH-AWD.

I'm almost positive that the power that goes to the rear wheels are 70% for both i-VTM and SH_AWD. And that 100% of that (70) can go to directly to the wheel that needs it.

Cool. I hear very good things about the SH-AWD system. It would be great if the Passport had the same system (even if the name is different).

The SH-AWD system has always been a key buying factor for Acura products, so its surprising to see that they are providing the same system in one of their Honda models. I know they offered it on older versions of the Accord.

I-VTM and SHAWD are the same. Software may be slightly tweaked depending on the models but its the same system overall. I expect this to change when acura comes out with their TTV6 engine due to the differences in HP/Torque.

I just spent some time at the Honda dealer playing with the settings of a Pilot (which is the same as the Passport). You can see the AWD graphics on the dashboard just like you can on an Acura. I was actually pretty impressed with everything the Infotainment system can do and display, both on the main screen AND on the dash. Very cool.

I sat in a Pilot the other day myself and I did not like how close the brake pedal is to the dead pedal hump. No room to stretch out. I hope the Passport isn’t the same.

I was so focused on going through all the possible options (within the settings) that I never thought to try the brake pedal.

Yeah it’s kinda dangerous if your foot ever gets stuck there. My CRV is better and my ‘16 Civic Sedan has the best setup.

Oh. Well, I'm guessing it'll be the same in the Passport. Based on pics and videos it looks like the Passport is a carbon-copy of the Pilot in the front interior area.

With all the similarities between the Pilot and Passport I would be surprised if its different at all. Its not like there is much of a difference between the MDX and Pilot SH-AWD/I-VTM4 anyway. I believe the RDX has the new system and if so you would see more of a difference between that and the MDX/Pilot.

I had heard the Passport had a few minor tweaks that made it slightly different than the Pilot... so I was hoping the AWD system might have been closer to the new RDX SH-AWD. (wishful thinking on my part. )
