When we took possession of our Luna Silver Elite at the showroom, it had that wet tire coating on the tires and really looked sharp. Can anyone recommend a product available that works well (easy to apply) and won't disappear after a rain shower?

Here you go: this works great, a little messy to apply (Use a curved Tire Sponge Applicator). just rub in on and leave it, not need to wipe it further, just let it soak in. I tried the Spray but it gets all over your wheels, auto body and discolors the cement, so get the GEL...!

Read the reviews of this stuff on Amazon. Lots of positive reviews, but a number of very negative reviews complaining about excessive "sling". I sure wouldn't want this stuff all over the paint on my new Passport.

I bought something curved like this from Pep Boys, it had a plastic area to hold, it was not all foam like this. The key is to put the Tire Gel on the Pad (first) and move the pad around the tire, fitting the curve of the pad with the curve of the tire... Doing it this way I NEVER spill any!

My first application of the Black Magic Wet Tire product went well. I found the gel to be thick and easy to apply from its plastic squirt bottle with easy open/close flip cap to the provided curved applicator sponge and then onto the tire. As we all know, the PP comes with ribbed Continental tires. The dense ribbed sidewalls make applying the gel somewhat a task, but I was aiming for a first or experimental coat to see how the application process would be heeding all the negative warnings about applying too much product and the dreaded sling. I let my Elite site overnight in its garage and drove it early this morning. The tires looked good and no sign of sling after driving about 12 miles at speeds up to 50 mph. I'm going to stay with this first thin coat and see how long it lasts e.g. UV sun, rain, and washings. I'll report back on my experience with it.

I don’t use any tire dressing, as it’s called, anymore. When it wears off you will notice the tires have a yellow or orange tint to them. When I did use a tire dressing product I used the Meguiars Endurance product that lasts multiple washes. It dries on the tires and you don’t the sling as people have with other products

I detail cars one the side(at least I used to). I would get Meguiar’s Hyper shine by the gallon and you could dilute it with water to get the desired shine. Negatives to water-based dressings is they don’t last as long as silicone and will require reapplication after each wash.

@cevwvu if you don’t thoroughly clean the tire periodically the tire dressing, especially silicone based, will build up over time causing the tire discoloration you witnessed.

In my 40 of taking care of my cars, it seems I've tried most of the common tire dressings. A couple of years ago I tried Surf City Garage Beyond Black. It is definitely the best product I've ever used. I like the low luster natural look not the super gloosy wet look on my tires, and this stuff from Surf City really works, and it lasts for weeks. As it says in their promotional material "water-based, natural low shine clean finish, non greasy, won't attract dust, extreme protection from UV rays". I used it for a couple years on my previous vehicle and it did not cause any discoloration. I just ordered more to keep my Passport tires looking good. I am in no way associated with Surf ity Garage ... only sharing my experience and complete satisfaction with this product.
