Can this be done "over the air"? or do we have to use a thumb-drive? or ???

Apparently it can be done with a wireless connection or via USB drive. If you check the "complete" owners manual (not the "guide") it will detail the procedure. If you don't have the complete owners manual you can download it at

Right. Thanks. I was thinking of the "Nav" update -- oops.

Yes, the Nav system update is done with a USB drive. We get 5 years of free yearly Nav updates. I had a 2017 Ridgeline which I updated once.

Update... I had my Passport in for service today. The Nav system wouldn't speak turn-by-turn directions or prompts. Turned out the center speaker wasn't connected at the factory. They also reset and updated the audio system, which meant I had to re-enter all my station presets and related audio settings.
