Lucky to be alive. 2 error codes appeared and the vehicle started slowing down.....rapidly. I was in the middle lane and as I was trying to move over while putting my blinkers on, but the steering wheel started locking up. I managed to pull in the emergency lane as I was fighting with the steering wheel, but it was in the worst possible place around the corner (see pic).

1.) The vehicle took over and I was out of the picture. Steering was almost out of my control, vehicle speed kept going down and I could not accelerate. 2. The emergency lane position was not the best and someone could have slammed into me. Or what if I couldn't move over when this happened? I drive on many highways where there is construction and there's no emergency lane.

Has anyone experienced this same issue and what has the dealer done? I plan on contacting a lemon law attorney next. Why? This is major problem that I've had with only 5k miles on the odometer. The 1st issue was the Infotainment system not wanting to turn off and I had to pull out a fuse located on the engine so it would shut off or my battery would have died.

2 MAJOR problems.

I really, really like this suv, but now the safety features are messing with my safety.

I could not get the error codes to pop back on when the vehicle started back up. Hopefully they can figure out what's causing this as its a HUGE safety issue to the point of I wouldn't take it on the highway again.

Dealer called....
They posted in a Nationwide tech forum and are waiting for responses from master mechanics and engineers because this is a new problem that they have not ran into yet.

That sounds even worse, but even closer to a lemon. Sorry guys I'm not talking down Honda, but look at what happened to me here.....I have to contact a lemon law attorney soon.

Not sure your state law but in mine the dealership has to be given at least 3 opportunities to correct the issue before we can claim the lemon law. I would recommend letting them fix it and try to keep the car in excellent condition that way if you continue to have issues you can have a good resale value on it. I love our passport but I almost feel like I’m in a lease because we have already had a few issues with ours and if that pattern continues we’re trading it in for a Toyota before the 3yr, 36,000 warranty is up.
I used to have many vehicles from Toyota, hated the outdated tech inside, but never had issues like these with the mechanicals.

Yeah while honda is focusing on performance and tech Toyota just keeps manufacturing reliable vehicles.
My wife has a '17 CRV EX-L and so far.....with 13k miles there hasn't been a single issue. It's my own fault for buying the Passport. I read about the transmision issues that the Pilot had, but then I read that Honda fixed many issues on the transmission for the Passport. I was looking for a vehicle that wasn't too long like the Pilot as I didn't need 3rd row so the Passport fit he bill.

I sure am kicking myself now. I paid near $40k for a vehicle that has constant issues and it has been in the shop nearly 25% of the time since I've owned it.

I take it you opted for the 2.5l crv not the 1.5t then?

Yeah the passport check all of the boxes for us, the one box that couldn’t be checked is reliability because that is learned over time.. well not even at 2,000 miles and we’ve needed an alignment, front struts, and it needs to go in for the leaking AC problem. I just keep seeing these posts about infotainment issues and transmission issues and i’m just wondering when ours is next..
Actually no we have the 1.5t with surprisingly no issues.

I've noticed that on mine when I press the brake to slow down if I'm driving over 50mph, I can sense the steering wheel vibrating which is normally the sign of an alignment I presume? But at 5k miles?

Sounds like warped rotors, I believe at least one other poster has experienced issues with warped rotors already too..

The 1.5t engines have oil dilution issues, I have that with my 17 civic too. Honda has extended the Powertrain warranty an extra year for everyone with a 1.5t, I feel like they could have done a little more but at least they acknowledge their poorly designed engine.

I have driven 1200 miles since I changed my oil and the oil level has risen from the full hash To the top of orange plastic.
Crossing my fingers over time on the CRV. Hoping this one squeezes past any issues.

Man, hopefully that doesn’t happen again, that seems like it could be dangerous in certain situations..
True, but I am already in touch with Honda Corporate. I just can't trust "intermittent" issues that could mean life or death.

Yeah that’s pretty sketchy IMO.. I live in Oklahoma and if I were trying to rush home to beat a tornado (as I typically do after work April-May) and my transmission just said “naw not today” after being at Honda for said issue, I would probably have to choke a bitch. Keep us posted on your progress with them!
I doubt it will go far, all I can do is wait for it to happen again and pray to God me and my family are safe when it does. Isn't that horrible to think that way? I think it is especially when I dumped more of my hard earned money into someone like Honda vs spending less with another manufacturer and probably feel safer.

Sucks to be me and any future Honda owner with this same issue. Ridiculous...

IN THE ALTERNATIVE..

park your car at the dealership... until they fix it.... not just clear the codes....
safety is critical... PERIOD...

clearing codes without a fix is not a fix....

At least you have in writing from them that codes appeared and documented by the dealership.. YOU SHOULD HAVE taken a photo with your cell phone as your proof!!.....

Drive safe.. REPORT defect incident to Federal Highway safety .... easy to do online..
I agree with you 100%.

Yes I have pics of it. Look on page 1 on this thread. A Honda case manager was just assigned to this case now. They will be working with the dealership. Otherwise I'll file a lemon law complaint in the end.

I'm right with you. I only have 2,000 miles
I'm dissapointed the Honda product. At 40k, it should be better.
Paint issues
Blind spot fault
infotainmaent dispaly showed rear camera while driving
Steering wheel controls problem
Door seals
Rear hatch not opening all the way
Hard shift in third gear, only happens when the car sits for a few days.
I have the district manager involved
Called Honda and opened a case

Right now I'm riding it out for the lemon law
You have those at only 2k miles?

The Honda case manager they assigned to me is an absolute joke. She won’t call me at the designated times as I can’t speak to her while at work. I let her know when I’m available and she purposely calls me at the opposite times and just leaves a voice mail.

I’m also going to approach the lemon law.

I have not looked to an attorney. I filed a complaint and received a case from Honda. My lemon law says 3 times for a repair and it should go to the next level.
Right now going I'm going thru the pain of what Honda will do.
As in a Honda case manager? I have one too, but they’re worthless. All they told me that they would do is overlook what the dealer is going to do. Otherwise they’re not doing a single thing for me.
Problem for me is that the dealer isn’t able to find anything wrong....supposedly.
