So I've unselected all (and there are a lot ) email alerts and they just keep coming, I finally gave up and went to gmail and send to spam. Is there a better way?

Under Settings > Preferences uncheck the four boxes for "Automatically watch content".

For threads you have started/posted in there is an option at the top to Unwatch which stops the notifications for that one. I don't think there's a way to unwatch everything without going from post to post.
