The installation instructions for the Honda Crossbars give a very specific location for the crossbars, marked with permanent dimples on the rails. Yet the crossbars are clearly intended to be adjustable.

Any thoughts on why this is? What is so special about the marked locations?

My guess would be those are the locations for the factory crossbar accessories to attach and be the most stable. I had to move them to fit my roof basket.
