Also supervised son’s oil change in his 2014 CRV, 55k Miles. Junior at KU, I buy the oil/filter, he does the work with my tools in my garage. Coached him up on the value of quality parts, DIY. This will all be his someday.

Was the percentage at 15 percent and did it have a 1 for tire rotation?

Think it was 60% but honestly not sure, just wanted to get it done prior to summer road trips. Don’t think it called for rotation, plan on doing that around 10k miles.

I've never owned a brand new car, or newer car for that matter. So I don't know how engine manufacturering has come along but it used to be a pretty universally accepted fact that you should do your first oil change after roughly 1000 miles after engine break in to flush out any metal wear from the break in period. Maybe machining has come a long way and with the tighter tolerances of today's engines, it no longer requires that but I dont know.

When you did your oil change did you notice any shiny particles in your oil or did it feel graining at all?

I am tempted to change my oil at 1k just for peace of mind even if it's a placebo lol.

My Honda shop that works on Honda and Acura only said between 4,000-5,000 for my first oil change. A wide range just due to the fact I am not sure what my mileage will be when I get home in 28 days!

I only saw, clear and what looked like to me, quality oil draining. Expect anything like you are describing to have been filtered out.

Like you, this oil change for me was the equivalent of the “break in” oil change as I believe the quality of a Honda engine build today is among the best in the industry.

My BMW was under warranty and they would not let me change the oil until 7500 miles, my Passport will get it's first oil change next week at about 5500 miles (50% oil life remaining). Go with the mfg recommendation...

No I didn't notice any shiny particles. I am 68 years old & this is my first new car in 30 years. I changed the at 6200 miles (40%)
