There is a map update available for my Passport navigation system. I am following the procedure in the link below:

https://honda.garmin.com/honda/site/geminiInstructions

Garmin Express only supports USB drives < 32GB and the only one I have is 128GB, so I just placed an order for a 32GB drive. Will continue the process in a few days when I have the new drive.

This is just FYI on the map update process and requirements.

I received my 32GB USB drive. I followed the instructions above and the update process was straightforward. The maps were updated from version 2018.10 to 2019.11.

The USB drive I ordered is the SanDisk Ultra CZ48 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Did you have to pay for this update? I do not see Passport listed under the 2019 choices.
No I did not have to pay. Where is it you are not seeing the Passport listed?

Edit: I think I see what you are referring to. The instructions are the same as for the Pilot and Odyssey.

How do we know if we *need* the update? Is there a version number somewhere?
Good question. I started out trying to transfer my saved places and addresses from my Garmin Nuvi to the Passport (I still haven't figured it out). Anyway, I read somewhere that it might be possible using Garmin Express and I stumbled across the page in the link above.

After inserting a USB drive in the car and then accessing Garmin Express on my computer I saw that an update was available. The first time you do this, there is a field to enter an email address so that you'll be notified when an update is available.

So the short answer is:

- There probably is a version number somewhere buried in the navigation screens (I'll look when I go out in a few minutes), but then you have to know where to look on-line to see if that's the latest version (I don't yet know where that is).

- You can follow the instructions above to register your system with Garmin Express, check for current updates, and enter you email address to be notified of future updates.

Homer,
I bought the scan disk you recommended and completed the update. My map version is now 2019.11 also. Thanks for the info kid! Much appreciated! High Five!
Glad it worked for you! The current update is for the North American Maps (as far as I can tell), but over time there may be other updates with other versions numbers, so once you're signed up for email updates with Garmin Express that should eliminate the need to check versions numbers in the Navigation system.
