I was interested in the Mazda CX-5 prior to purchasing my Passport. I was coming off a 2015 Mazda3 hatchback that was wonderful to drive but very noisy. The real deciding part was the paint quality on the Mazda. My '3' had more rock chips than any car I had ever owned. At 50k, I repaired about 50 rock chips on various parts of the body using Dr. Color-chip. In reading the forums on the new CX-5, members were complaining about the same thing with emphasis on the red tri-coat. (my choice). Apparently Mazda doesn't prime the body according to a car painter who does this for a living.
Couple that with the fact that only 2 Mazda dealers exist in Montana - the closest on is 140 miles away.
That steered us away from Mazda. I have a S2000 with 40k on the clock with about 6-7 chips total.
