The crossover segment has quickly become one of the most crowded in the industry and the new Passport will stand as somewhat of an inbetweener. If Honda does decide to orient it was something that's viable off the beaten path then notable rivals will include the Forester and Murano. Based purely on its size and price it will also be comparable to that of the Sante Fe and Ford Edge.

Another possible competition is Mazda. The CX-5 and CX-9 have a lot of "bang for your buck" features. And frankly, I've never even considered Mazda vehicles but they are now on my list of vehicles to check out for my next purchase.

Well the CX5 isn’t because it’s a compact crossover. The CX9 competes more with the Pilot.

Passport competition is the Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, Explorer, Edge, Murano, Blazer, etc.

Well thank you Captain Obvious! That's why I stated the manufacturer and listed the closest ones in the category. CX-9 is a 3-row vs CX-5 being a 2-row.

Kidding aside though...Honda really needs to step up their game with some of the creature comforts/features that other auto-makers do (e.g. Korean and other manufacturers with their tech/gizmo on their infotainment and interior/exterior features)

Honda isn’t in trouble at all. I predict Acura will no longer be in business OR they’ll strictly be an SUV company similar to Land Rover in about 5 years. Their cars don’t sell and they’re ugly as F. Especially the RLX.

Totally agree on this. I've been overlooking some things/features and have stayed loyal to Honda due to their reliability/personal experience. But that might change for me here soon.

I've never even considered Mazda vehicles...

Funny you say this because Mazda wasn't ever on my radar. Never even considered them. But just yesterday I decided to drive to a Mazda dealer to look at the CX 5. I actually really liked the "look" of it but the cargo area was REALLY small. I thought the CX 9 might be too large so I didn't think to look at it, but maybe I should? (I didn't feel like dealing with any salespeople so I checked out the row of CX 5s in the parking lot).

I'm also still considering the Acura RDX, but I'm not quite sold on it.

I am looking for a non-US branded, non-luxury SUV that I can take camping a few times a year, but otherwise will be city-based driven in a location, that gets 0" of snow and less then 7" of rain a year. Excluding the Korean SUVs, excluding Mazda, that really only left me with Subaru (EVERYTHING they make is UNDER-POWERED), Nissan (None of their SUV's appear to be very rugged), Toyota (The 4-Runner has not had a overhaul in 9 years, and the new RAV4 Adventure, which is $41k US dollars for a 4-cyl engine w/NO leather) and Honda (CRV - too wimpy and the Pilot is too big) and lo & behold - the Passport seems to check ALL the boxes for what I am looking for!

And I actually love the fact that it is pieced together with a bunch of tried and true Pilot & Ridgeline parts, as it makes the 1st year curse pratically non-existant!

Any car or SUV usually boils down to the buyers' expectations. I expected a lot from the 2019 RAV4 and was disappointed in a number of ways, mostly regarding PERFORMANCE, FEATURES and PRICE! A fully loaded Adventure Trim RAV4 has an MSRP in the $39k range and there is no way in "heck" I was going to pay that much for a SUV with an under-powered 4cyl, cheaply designed interior, with NO LEATHER and nearly EVERY non-Toyota Dealer driving review complains about engine noise! I bought a larger, better designed, Honda AWD Passport with a LEATHER interior and a powerful (smooth and quiet) 6cyl, for $39k... Also look for the Motor Trend small SUV review that ranks this new RAV4 in FOURTH PLACE against its competition...! Of course, I don't mean to denigrate any actual 2019 RAV4 Owners - and for you 2019 RAV4 owners: "denigrate" means "to put down"...

One of the biggest mistakes I keep saying about the new RAV4 Toyota made. Putting in that underpowered weenie sized 4 banger. A V6 should have been standard or at the very least offer it. This is why we dismissed it right away and went with our new Passport Elite. Nothing beats a tried and true strong V6 like in the Passport.

When I went to the Detroit Auto show several months ago, I wanted to see the Passport and my Buddy was looking at the Telluride. They were giving “rides” to show the capabilities of the Telluride on a rather limited track - no real hurdles for it, just a dirt track, and the thing broke down.. it was rather sad.

Call me old school, stubborn whatever, I have never stepped in a Kia or Hyundai dealer in my life and if they were the last 2 manufacturers left I would ride my bike or walk. Everyone I know that ventured that way said it’s total junk. 10 year warranty is crap. Girl at work lost an engine, the second engine died 2 years later. They told her only the original engine carried 10 year warranty, second one 90 days.
My mother in-law had a Hyundai. I went to park it for her and the steering was loose as heck and would wonder. Poor woman drove it that way for years because they told her it was normal. Elder abuse if you ask me

I know that you can’t believe everything you read or hear. However, JD Power and a number of the You Tube professional reviewers seem to think they are currently reliable.

I also know that many of them like the new Dodges too but no way I’d buy another Dodge
