I've been looking for a bike rack for the Passport that can also work when attached to a camping trailer. I ran into a snag because I need a tilting rack to clear the rear hatch but none of the RV rated racks that I could find have the tilt function and none of the tiltable racks are RV rated.

I picked up a Swagman Trailhead 4 Bicycle Carrier that I modified to fold.

The modification was a simple matter of replacing the vertical stabilizing bolt with a quick release pin and I took the extra step of adding two gas shocks to make it easier to lift the bikes.

I'm eager to get it out on the trail and see how it handles, but it feels very solid.

If anyone is interested in doing a similar build, here's the parts I used:

• Swagman Trailhead 4 Bicycle Carrier (the photo in Amazon is wrong)
• 10mm Ball Mounts
• 10" 45lb Gas Struts
• Stainless Quick Release Pin

I cant wait to hit the trails also,,I had a bike rack that was like this one when I had my 2014 pilot,I just didn't like the way all the bikes would mount all crooked with all the weight to one side because of the angle of each bikes top tube.I was going to start a hitch bike rack tread but you beat me to it ,so every body could post the one they have to help members looking to buy one decide want they want to get.Im going on a quick run this weekend with a buddy to get the lungs pumping and work off some of this winter weight I put on.I will post pictures of the bike rack that I replaced yours with that could carry 2 or 4 bikes just have to pull it out of the shed and make sure I still have all the pieces since I haven't used it in about 3 years.My last truck was a 2017 Ridgeline and the biggest thing Im going to miss the most about that truck is all my bikes went in the bed with a tail gate pad.I also want to say great job on the mod you did to your bike rack and thanks for all the info,pics and great video you posted.Looking forward to your future videos.

I was able to find all of the pieces to my bike rack and dust them off for my bike ride this weekend and everything worked out great, I mainly use it for two bikes when I use it and it feels very stable. When I add the second part for 4 bikes it kind of moves from side to side a little more than I would want but it always got me to my destination with no problems.The bike rack is called a Reese sport wing bike rack,I was able to still find one on line and left you a link below. https://realtruck.com/p/reese-sportwing-bike-racks/
I cant remember what I paid for it but I think I found a better deal on ebay with free shipping.These are the pics with 2 bikes and all 4 bikes mounted.

I really don't like transporting my bikes like this because it makes me drive like a little old lady on the road but with a car like this your options are limited.I felt so much better having my bikes a lot safer in my car like when I had my Ridgeline.

We now have a Mazda CX-7 (looking to buy a Passport Touring). We have used a KUAT brand trailer hitch rack. What we liked about is that it supports each bike with platforms for each wheel. We only transport two bikes.

@izzym I have a couple of questions, can you still access your rear hatch with the bikes mounted? Have you had any clearance issues getting into driveways? It's nice to see that Reese supports RV usage. Looks like a nice solution.

@Visa , the Kua racks look very nice. Great designs, and I think they'll suit the Passport well.

I do notice that they don't offer any models that are approved for RV use, which shouldn't be an issue when mounted to the Passport, but you'll need to be careful attaching to a trailer or other RV to avoid voiding your warrantee. I didn't realize this was a thing until I started researching my rack and I only bring it up for those that might similarly be looking for a multi use rack.

DavidCSmithDP,No the bikes have to come off to access the tailgate and as for driveway issues I have none, side to side or ground clearance.My backyard is a private driveway that I share with all my neighbors.I know that the close up of the bikes look like they stick out about a foot on each side but they don't its only about 2 or 3 inches on each side.I have more pics maybe these will help you out.
