Well, I had a real close call due to my own slightly aggressive driving and the response of the Collision system. There was a car in the left lane this morning going 50 in a 55 (aka 75 during rush hour.) People eventually started to pass around her on the right and jump back into the left. As I went for my move the car abruptly started braking and cut the gas because it thought I was going to hit the car in the middle lane as I was moving to the left lane. It basically acted like I was brake checking the lady going slow in the left lane. Thankfully she was able to stop but it scared the crap out of me and her. I felt really bad. I had my foot on the gas and all of a sudden the gas pedal was cut off and the brakes jammed on really card. If the system had been off it would have been no problem. I didn't think the move I was making was nutty. It was aggressive but there was at least two car lengths for me to move into.

Anyway. The system works and is extremely cautious. I decided to leave it on and just chill out but I would turn it off if I was trying get some where quick and needed to make some tight passes.

Sorry to hear about your scare. In situations where I am focused and the driving is aggressive (mostly other drivers) I plan to turn it off. In my area its not unusual for drivers to cut in front of other cars without a lot of space between. I'm used to it and can see it coming, but this would set off the CMBS.
I no longer have a daily commute, but that would probably be one of the situations I would disable it.

So far, I've only gotten the flashed warning, but braking has not been initiated.

I have to agree the system does not seem to work well with "aggressive" drivers, me included. It thinks a collision is imminent and slams on the brakes even when passing close to a turning car. The first time it happened it really scared me till I realized what was happening. Luckily no one was behind me or it could have been worse. Does anyone know if the brake lights activate when these systems apply the brakes or slow you down?

Using my turn signal usually calms down all the nannies in those sorts of situations. If I'm close to another vehicle, it assumes I'm changing lanes anyway and let's it go.

If I'm using cruise and a car that was in front of me, moves over to make a turn then it takes some time for the system to let it go and wants to brake, so I just got in the habit of canceling the cruise when that happens.

And yes, the brakes illuminate when the car does the braking.

I found a setting to adjust the distance for the system. It was set on normal but I changed it to short. Hopefully that will suit my driving style better!

My experience is somewhat similar. Driving to West Virginia from Pennsylvania I began to creep up on a semi and Passport would not get any closer and the stuttering began. It took a few seconds for me to realize it was the collision system operating. It was my third day with my new Passport. Still learning all its features. Love driving it too. Former Pilot owner.

It's been a bit better but I still turn it off if I'm in a rush. Hopefully I won't regret that decision one day. Still would prefer to crash the car myself rather than the car making a surprising decision for me. The annoying thing is you have to turn it off every time you get in the car. Not a biggie.

We just returned from Long Island, NY to Hanover, PA in a non-stop rain storm. With speeds in the mid-70's and much traffic with lots of passing the Collision avoidance system and the Lane Keeping systems became annoying and intrusive to the driving conditions and I turned off as both interfered with the traffic flow. They are nice to have but are not needed in all driving situations.

As a person who basically lives in NJ and lived in LI I can relate! Did you try the adaptive cruise? I am looking forward to seeing how it works on the first trip to the Island.

I forgot to mention that I disconnected that too. Even with the closest distance setting, with it maintaining the minimum distance, many drivers simply cut ahead of me and the system slowed me down to maintain the safe distance. I found that if your paying attention, the Adaptive Cruise Control system is really unnecessary. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Also, spending four days on LI with much driving, I did not see one PP. Could it be LI is the wrong market for the PP? Or is it that we're still a new car in town.

I have seen one besides mine. Looked at inventories and they are pretty high IMO. The same cars I looked at are still over a month later. I think of it being inspired by a classic SUV for people who want a decent amount of cargo space, higher ride, and powerful engine. It's not a 4runner offroad edition but it will do fine in most basic conditions.

Packed the Passport for a trip out of town. Discovered that our small cooler won't fit under the cargo cover in the rear. I've owned a Lexus RX350 and a Chevy Equinox both with cargo covers and the same cooler easily fit under the cover. I'm kind of surprised considering how roomy the Passport is.

The Passport trades off more storage space under the floor against having less space/distance between the floor and the cargo cover. I have always preferred carrying my cooler on the backseat or rear floor, but I know this doesn't work for everyone.

I’ve had the BRAKE light go off fairly frequently when there wasn’t an impending collision. Haven’t had the brakes tap, though, unless I really was behind someone. One such occurrence the guy cut me off...that was a bit unsettling.

I’m glad to have the system, though, as long as it doesn’t apply the brakes incorrectly. Given some of the random times these safety features sometimes activate, I’m not entirely trusting of them.
