I have not purchased anything yet but for what is worth, I wanted to post what I have been quoted by Autonation in South Florida:

2019 Passport Touring 2WD - $40,239 + tax.

Given that MSRP for this specific vehicle is about $39,280, I assume they're just adding $800 doc fee and standard fees on top so no real discount despite their claim that I am being given a $1,000 discount.

I counter-offered 38,000 + tax on Feb 11. As of Feb 13 I have not heard from them

I have an appointment to test drive and negotiate the same at Brickell Honda on Feb 16. I'll update how this goes.

Please let us know what happens. I offered the same thing here (38k+tax) in Southern California and was told a definitive “no” by the dealer. When I get more free time I will chat with some other dealers and see if anyone bites. I’m getting the feeling it’s going to be a couple months until they accept an offer like that. But who knows?

I found the Passport I want, 90 miles away, and only $396 over Invoice+Destination, just sent the dealer an email, stay tuned...

Out of curiosity, what did you use to search for your car? I tried using Cars.com, but noticed that it left out a number of local dealers that I know have the car in stock.

Price before tax, tags and dealers extras was $38,630.

Congrats! Sounds like you got exactly the deal that I’m looking for, ha ha. What part of the country is the dealer that you bought it from? I can’t seem to find any deals like that in Southern California, and all they carry here our front wheel drive.
