Today, I installed a flashing brake light module on the 3rd brake light (only) on my 2019 Passport Touring. The flasher was only $7.99 on Amazon [Qiorange Flash Strobe Controller Flasher Module for LED Brake Tail Stop Light] and works great, and the installation was much easier then I expected.

First, remove the interior trim panel above the rear window. Squeeze and pull gently, I did not have to pry against anything and did not break any clips.

In the first photo you can see the green wiring harness clip hanging down. This is the wiring that powers the 3rd brake light. It was carefully disconnected using some small needle nose pliers.

Once these wires are disconnected the spicing begins. I started by removing the tan and black wires that lead to the green connectors from the wire-loom that holds them. These wires will be tucked back into the loom when the splicing is complete. I wanted to make sure that the module could be installed and removed easily so I connected everything using "Bullet Butt" wire connectors. This way if something goes wrong with the module in the future, I can remove it and put things back to normal without getting my soldering iron back out.

Cut the wiring with plenty of room for the splice. This way you do NOT lose the original connector to the 3rd brake light, and have enough room to tuck the wiring away later. I soldered, shrink tubed, and taped some additional wiring to both sides of the cut and added the bullet butt connectors. I used red wire to extend the positive (tan) wire and green wire on the negative (black) wire. I also made sure to use both a male and female connector on the same side of the splice so that the wiring could not be plugged in backwards.

At this point, re-connect the green wiring harness and connect the bullet butt connectors together properly to make sure that the 3rd brake light is functioning as expected from the factory. In my example, the red wires go together, and the green wires go together. Have someone step on the brake to verify that all the connections are working properly.

The last step is to install the bullet butt connectors on the flashing light module and connect as instructed. Then just tuck the module and the wires up into the hole leading to the green harness and the job is done. I taped my flashing module down with double sided foam tape to make sure it did not rattle. Have a friend step on the brake to test it out and enjoy your success. Snap the trim back into place above the rear window, clean up your tools and grab a drink to celebrate a job well done!
